lutein (food supplement)
Lutein is a nutritionally important carotenoids that occur in selected, often brightly colored vegetables, such as corn, spinach and kale and an important antioxidant nutrient. Studies have shown that lutein can improve visual function and decrease the risk of eye disease. Recent studies have also shown that lutein and zeaxanthin in combination with omega-3 fatty acids may be useful in maintaining normal skin health and appearance. As such, supplements with lutein are used to help maintain healthy eye function or optimal skin health during the normal aging process.
