castor oil

back to ingredient overview

Castor oil is a triglyceride of fatty acids. Almost 90 percent of its fatty acid content consists of ricinoleic acid. Such a high concentration of this unusual, unsaturated fatty acid is thought to be responsible for castor oil's remarkable healing abilities.

Castor oil is especially effective in treating skin issues such as boils, wounds, rashes, burns, and even skin tags. Although it is not specifically known how this oil helps the skin, scientists do know that it penetrates the skin easily and soaks deeply into the tissue. It also contains a combination of isostearic acid and succinic acid, both of which are effective skin conditioners used in shampoos and hand lotions.
