carrageenan (irish mosh)

back to ingredient overview

Carrageenan extract, also called Irish mosh, is a purple red seaweed found along the Atlantic coast of Europe and North-America. Irish mosh has a very healing effect on the skin; it contains betacaroten and vitamin B1 (antoixidants) that stimulate cell renewal and skin healing. It is also very supportive to skin cells as it helps them absorb water (hydrating properties) and nutrients. It also functionas as a topical microbicide.

It is also used in skin creams to mix oily and watery ingredients together (emulsifier). It is also perfect for very dry skin and the ultra hypersensitive skin types that cannot even bear low dilutions of chamomile oil etc.
