alcohol denat.

back to ingredient overview

Alcohol, also called ethanol or ethyl alcohol, is the alcohol found in alcoholic beverages. When used in products that are not food, beverages or oral drugs, many countries require that alcohol be denatured so it is undrinkable. This means that a small amount of a denaturant is added to the alcohol to make it taste bad. Alcohol Denat. is the general name used for denatured alcohol. It is formed by the fermentation of sugars, and is a natural ingredient.

Note:

A lot of skin care products contain synthetic alcohol denat. (also called isopropanol/isopropylalcohol). This is a chemically substance made out of propylene, a by product of the petrol industry. This is often used as it is much cheaper than the above mentioned natural version. Unfortunately it is very rough and dehydrating for the skin.
